What's included as a preventive care service for adults?
For adult patients, preventive care includes screening tests for common conditions and opportunities for early intervention.
Tests include:
- Abdominal aortic aneurysm
- Blood pressure
- Breast and cervical cancer** as well as breast cancer counseling for genetic testing
- Chlamydia and gonorrhea
- Cholesterol
- Colon cancer
- Depression
- Type 2 diabetes
- Lung cancer
- Osteoporosis
- Obesity
- Alcohol Misuse Screening & Behavioral Counseling Interventions
Adult services also include immunizations, including flu shot, tobacco cessation, sexually transmitted infection (STI) counseling and services for intimate partner violence.
Pregnancy and children
There are preventive care services for pregnant patients as well. Pregnancy-related screening tests include bacteria in urine, gestational diabetes, hepatitis B, iron deficiency anemia and postpartum depression. Pregnancy-related services include breastfeeding support, supplies and counseling and folic acid supplementation. Infants, children and teen patients also have covered preventive care services.
